Six Flags Wild Safari closed in 2012 to make way for the current Six Flags Safari Off Road Adventure which opened in 2013. Wild Safari saw guests driving their own cars through a safari where they would encounter a wide variety of animals from various countries and continents. The most infamous of these animals were always the baboons which caused damage to many a car. Fortunately the baboons were put behind fences a couple years before Wild Safari closed, so should a drive through safari return to Six Flags they wouldn't be an issue. It's kind of crazy to think though that nowadays Six Flags would go back to that after seven years of Off Road Adventure right? Off Road Adventure is an incredible experience. You board a truck and are taken through the safari with a tour guide that gives you facts on a variety of the over 1,200 animals in the park. Fast forward to today and the past is new again.
Due to the ongoing covid-19 pandemic, Six Flags Great Adventure announced today the return of the drive through safari! In classic Six Flags fashion, the old entrance to Wild Safari was never demolished and one would think will be used as it was from 1974 to 2012. In order to prevent overcrowding, you will need to make a reservation to visit the safari at https://www.sixflags.com/reserve . Six Flags has not announced an opening date for the safari, but I suspect that they are going to want to get the ball rolling on this as soon as possible. From what it sounds like the park is currently implementing new safety measures and protocols to ensure the safety of guests, employees, and animals on the safari.
More details have also surfaced on what making those online reservations will look like. When you visit the reservation website you will need the following information and to do the following things.
1.) Your season pass, membership, or individual day pass ticket number.
2.) Pay for parking (if your pass does not include parking already)
3.) Watch a video reviewing the new social distancing protocols for the park.
4.) Select the date and approximate time you wish to go to the park.
5.) Acknowledge the parks health policy.
*These requirements can be seen at sixflags.com/reserve
So needless to say I am hyped about all of this. My last blog talked about hope that the Disney Parks can give to Disney fans and now we have a big sign of hope on a more local level for me personally. While both the theme park and Hurricane Harbor remain closed, both the establishment of this reservation system in what it will look like and the fact that the safari is returning are huge morale boosters. Currently New Jersey is still far from open, so while I do not expect the main theme park to be able to open in the very near future, I am still very hopeful that there will be a 2020 season full of fun rides and fun times! Tonight I'll leave you all with a video of El Toro, one of the highest rated wooden roller coasters in the world which calls Six Flags Great Adventure its home! Thanks as always for reading and stay tuned for the next blog coming real soon!
