Hello everyone and welcome back. I hope you are all staying safe and healthy wherever you may be reading from. Today I bring some sad news to coaster enthusiasts everywhere. Six Flags Great Adventure will not be opening their season this Friday as originally planned. This should come as no surprise as the global health crisis continues have a stranglehold on the theme park industry around the country and world. Immediate response that I saw on Facebook was a lot of people asking what is going to happen to their season passes and memberships that they paid for and are now not able to use for the full season. Well, Six Flags has put out what I think is a most impressive and encouraging way of handling this situation and I am honestly surprised given their financial state that this is something they are going to go with.
One Day Ticket
One day tickets now have an expiration date of 12/31/2020. This means anyone who bought a day pass can now go any one day during the season as opposed to the day they purchased the ticket for.
Membership
Regular Members/Gold Members will receive a free permanent upgrade to the Gold Plus membership level.
Gold Plus Members will receive a free upgrade to the Platinum level of membership for the 2020 season.
Platinum Members will receive a free upgrade to the Diamond level of membership for the 2020 season.
Diamond Members will receive a free upgrade to the Diamond Elite level of membership for the 2020 season.
Diamond Elite Members will receive some further upgrades including having 3 skip the line passes per visit, earn triple membership points, and gain one golden friend ticket that will be valid during any day the park is operating. These benefits will last for the duration of the 2020 season.
All Memberships will receive free extensions based on the number of months the park is closed rounded to the nearest month.
Season Pass
Season Pass holders will receive an extension of their season pass into the 2021 season equivalent to the number of days the park is closed due to COVID-19. Free friend days and other benefits will also be given to Season Pass holders upon the park reopening.
Pre-ordered Flash Passes can be used on any one day for the season and other season pass/membership addons will also be extended in the same manner that season passes and memberships themselves will be extended.
Construction Update
I want to mention that the construction on the Jersey Devil Roller Coaster has continued despite the park not opening. Six Flags Great Adventure continues to put video updates on their Youtube channel and you can find construction update images on Instagram as well that show the ride sticking out above the trees in Jackson. With the park being closed, barring the construction halting I can see this ride being ready to go earlier than I expected it to be. I can't guess a date as to when it will open because we don't even know when the park will be open.
All in all I think this is a great way for Six Flags to try and draw in crowds for whatever sized season they are going to have. Extending passes and memberships is certainly the right thing to do and in reality is all they needed to do. The free season long upgrades for members as well as the additional benefits to season pass holders is a real nice icing on the cake and 100% a way to encourage more visits to the park. I for one know that I'll be visiting more this year to make the most out of my 1 season Diamond membership when the park does reopen. As always thanks for reading and stay tuned for the next blog coming real soon!
